Emerson Electric Co. is an automation and software supplier to process, power and manufacturing industries, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, where the company was founded in 1890 as a maker of electric motors and fans. It trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker EMR and reported net sales of USD 4,873 million for its third quarter ended 30 June 2026, with underlying orders up 7 percent.
Businesses and product brands
Emerson presents five businesses: Automation Systems, Discrete Automation, Final Control, Measurement Instrumentation, and Test & Measurement. Control room hardware and software is sold mainly under the DeltaV distributed control system, the Ovation platform used in power generation, PACSystems controllers, the AMS asset management suite and the Guardian support programme. Final control covers control and isolation valves, actuators and regulators under the Fisher, Bettis and Vanessa names, with dedicated pages for LNG valves, blue hydrogen valves, fugitive emissions, tank storage and nuclear service.
Measurement Instrumentation carries Rosemount and Roxar transmitters and analysers for pressure, temperature, flow, level and liquid and gas analysis, Micro Motion and Flexim flow measurement, corrosion and erosion monitoring, flame and gas detection, industrial wireless instrumentation, continuous emissions monitoring and tank gauging systems. Discrete Automation sells factory equipment and software including ASCO, AVENTICS, TESCOM and Topworx products, while Test & Measurement is built around NI data acquisition, PXI and LabVIEW, which came into the group with National Instruments in 2023.
Software and Aspen Technology
Aspen Technology has been part of Emerson since 2022 and has been wholly owned since March 2025, and its software is sold alongside Emerson's own plant performance, simulation and asset management products, with annual contract value reported at USD 1.56 billion for fiscal 2025, up 10 percent. In July 2026 the company introduced refinery planning and scheduling software built on Aspen Technology products, and it has added artificial intelligence features to its test and measurement software. Oil, gas and energy applications
Emerson lists oil and gas, chemical, power, marine, mining, life sciences, water and wastewater, data centres, food and beverage, and pulp and paper among the industries it serves. In oil and gas the installed base spans upstream production and subsea measurement through Roxar instruments, midstream custody transfer and pipeline monitoring, and downstream refining and petrochemical control rooms. The company also markets integrated control and safety systems for LNG trains, hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel plants, emissions monitoring for regulatory reporting, and lifecycle services covering project engineering, commissioning, training and support.
Financial results
For the quarter ended 30 June 2026 Emerson reported net sales of USD 4,873 million, up 7 percent, pretax earnings of USD 916 million at an 18.8 percent margin, adjusted segment EBITA of USD 1,387 million at 28.5 percent, GAAP earnings per share of USD 1.28 and adjusted earnings per share of USD 1.71. Operating cash flow was USD 1,425 million and free cash flow USD 1,323 million, both up by roughly a third year on year, and nine-month net sales reached USD 13,781 million.
Guidance for fiscal 2026 was raised to about 5 percent net sales growth, adjusted earnings per share of about USD 6.55, operating cash flow of about USD 4.1 billion and free cash flow of about USD 3.6 billion, with roughly USD 2.2 billion to be returned to shareholders through buybacks and dividends; the quarterly dividend is USD 0.555 per share. Fiscal 2025 closed with underlying sales growth of 3 percent, adjusted earnings per share of USD 6.00 and free cash flow of USD 3.24 billion, and the company has targeted USD 12 billion of cumulative free cash flow between 2026 and 2028.
