Halliburton Company is an oilfield services and technology group headquartered in Houston and listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker HAL. It was founded in 1919 by Erle P. Halliburton, who started the business with a wooden mixing box, a borrowed wagon, a team of mules and a pump in Duncan, Oklahoma, and patented 38 oilfield tools and services during his career. Jeff Miller is chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Two reporting segments
Halliburton reports through Completion and Production, which covers hydraulic fracturing and stimulation, cementing, sand control, completion tools, artificial lift and well intervention, and Drilling and Evaluation, which covers drilling fluids, drill bits, directional drilling, measurement and logging while drilling, wireline, formation and reservoir testing, project management and software. In the second quarter of 2026 Completion and Production revenue was USD 3.2 billion with operating income of USD 474 million, while Drilling and Evaluation revenue was USD 2.5 billion with operating income of USD 338 million. Service lines run from subsurface evaluation and well construction through completions, production, abandonment and integrated project management, with electrical submersible and horizontal pumping systems sold to geothermal, mining and municipal customers as well as to oil and gas operators.

Contracts and partnerships
Aramco awarded Halliburton lump sum turnkey contracts covering roughly 285 planned wells across onshore fields in Saudi Arabia, combining oil re-entry, drilling, completions and workovers, and a separate multi-year contract for integrated stimulation and completion services in the kingdom's unconventional gas programme. TotalEnergies selected the company for integrated well construction on the GranMorgu deepwater development offshore Suriname, and Basra Oil Company appointed it to provide integrated field management services plus engineering, procurement and construction management for the Bin Umar and Sindbad fields in southern Iraq, using the Landmark portfolio as the digital foundation. Halliburton also won integrated drilling and completion work in Nigeria and digital agreements with PETRONAS Carigali in Malaysia and Pampa Energia in Argentina. On the equipment side it acquired Sekal AS from Sumitomo Corporation to strengthen drilling automation, and bought InformatiQ AS, a Norwegian developer of cloud-native subsurface, drilling and logistics applications, and it formed a strategic collaboration with Shape Digital on digital asset performance management. With ExxonMobil it reported the first fully closed-loop automated geological well placement, achieved in Guyana.
Technology and software
Product launches in 2025 and 2026 include the Xaminer Deep Testing logging service for deep-reading producibility and boundary identification, the OSTMZ Optimized Single-Trip Multi-Zone sand control system that treats several zones without repositioning the deployment tool, the Volta all-electric control system for intelligent completions, and the RangeStar geothermal well spacing and intercept service. The VersaFlex expandable liner hanger system was deployed in bp's Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli project in the Caspian Sea. Earlier milestones include the SmartFleet automated fracturing system introduced in 2020 and the DecisionSpace Desktop release from Landmark in 2010. The software business now sells DecisionSpace 365 in Enterprise and Essentials editions, DS365.ai, the iEnergy subscription programme and stack, SmartDigital, the Open Subsurface Data Universe, CO2 storage modelling and a national digital resource product with a virtual data room. Halliburton held its 2026 Technology Showcase in Houston from 4 to 7 May, attended by nearly 400 industry professionals. The company also runs Halliburton Labs, an accelerator for early-stage energy ventures, and provides well control and emergency response services under the Boots and Coots name.
History and international expansion
The company's first international step came in 1926, when it sold five cementing units to an English company operating in Burma. It established research laboratories and completed its first offshore cementing job from a barge in the Gulf of Mexico during the 1930s, opened in Venezuela in 1940, and expanded into Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and the Middle East in 1946, beginning work for the Arabian-American Oil Company, the forerunner of Saudi Aramco. A wholly owned Italian subsidiary followed in 1951, along with operations in Germany, England and Argentina over the next seven years. Halliburton supplied well completion equipment for the first offshore multiwell platform in China in 1984 and became the first American company to perform oilfield services in mainland China in 1986, opened a Moscow office in 1991 and celebrated its centenary in 2019.
