Intertek Group plc is a British assurance, testing, inspection and certification company headquartered in London. It was founded in 1885, listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2002 and joined the FTSE 100 in 2009. The group employs over 45,000 people across more than 1,000 locations in 100 countries, and is led by chief executive André Lacroix with Steve Mogford as chair.

Assurance, testing, inspection and certification

Intertek groups its work under four headings: assurance, which covers risk in operations, supply chains and quality management systems; testing of products and services against quality, safety, sustainability and performance standards; inspection of raw materials, products and assets; and certification against external and internal standards. Training and advisory work sit alongside these. The customer base is organised into chemicals; construction and engineering; energy and commodities; food and healthcare; hospitality assurance; government and trade; products and retail; and transportation. Within energy and commodities the published lines cover oil and gas, hydrogen, biofuels, nuclear, minerals, power generation and power transmission and distribution, solar and wind, wave and tidal. Newer commercial lines include Intertek AI Squared, an assurance programme for artificial intelligence systems and devices, and SupplyTek, a market access service for supply chains. The company markets its plan for growth as the Intertek 30 AAA strategy.

Asset integrity and non-destructive testing

For oil, gas, petrochemical and power clients Intertek provides asset integrity management support through conception, design, construction, commissioning, operations and decommissioning. Its specialists cover design, process safety, mechanical integrity, inspection and maintenance, operations and process support, corrosion, metallurgy and risk analysis, and the service range includes non-destructive testing, risk-based inspection, condition-based maintenance, advanced unmanned robotics, unmanned aerial systems, the Aware asset performance management software suite and predictive analytics for the energy industry, together with failure investigations and training in industry codes, standards and regulations.

A multi-year contract with Santos, announced in May 2026 from Adelaide, covers inspection, non-destructive testing and asset integrity management support across the operator's Australian assets, including risk-based inspection and corrosion management, and Intertek Moody South Africa marked 30 years of technical assurance work in the same month. Other energy-related work includes a strategic tidal atlas project for the Milford Haven Waterway awarded to Intertek Metoc in September 2026 and Metoc's membership of the International Cable Protection Committee to support submarine cable development.

Financial scale and reporting

In the 2025 financial year Intertek reported revenue of £3,431.6 million, operating income of £619.6 million and net income of £363.2 million. The group reports to shareholders through full-year and half-year announcements and an annual report and accounts, with a 2025 edition covering strategic, sustainability and financial reports. The address it publishes for investor enquiries is [email protected], while general customer contact runs through regional inquiry forms and call centres.

Laboratories, accreditation and market access

Intertek published a series of accreditation and approval milestones during 2026. In August it expanded fire detection testing with ISO 7240 and AS ISO 7240 accreditation; in July its UK consumer goods centre of excellence gained UKAS accreditation for a range of candle tests; and in September it attained full accreditation as a certification body under the Global Retailer and Manufacturer Alliance and was approved as a preparer of Health Product Declarations. It also unified its environmental laboratory business under the Intertek Envirolab brand in July 2026 and expanded one of Europe's largest GMP pharmaceutical stability storage facilities in May 2026, opened a materials testing laboratory in Plymouth, Michigan, and issued the first batch of EU Battery Regulation notified body compliance certificates for energy storage systems.

On the government and trade side, Intertek was appointed by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria in June 2026 to deliver SONCAP conformity assessment services, and in April 2026 it acquired the solar laboratory assets of Mitsui Chemicals in India, expanding its testing capacity for that market.
