Falkor is a Norwegian industrial software company and a majority-owned subsidiary of Kongsberg Gruppen ASA. Until 1 June 2026 it traded as Kongsberg Digital; the old name was retired, kongsbergdigital.com now redirects to falkor.com, and the company says the team, the ownership structure and the customer base are unchanged. It is headquartered in Oslo, builds on the KONGSBERG engineering heritage that dates back to 1814, and says thousands of users at energy, utility and chemical companies work in its software daily.
From Kongsberg Digital to Falkor
The company was founded in 2016 as a Kongsberg Gruppen subsidiary that consolidated oil and gas technology from Kongsberg Maritime with existing digitalisation work for heavy industry. Its published timeline places the beta launch of digital twin and maritime products in 2019, an enterprise framework agreement with Shell to digitalise assets worldwide in 2020, a multi-year Chevron agreement and the acquisition of the visualisation specialist Visavi in 2022, a USD 90 million equity raise from Shell Ventures and Idekapital plus a majority stake in FutureOn in 2023, and a two-year digital twin agreement with Yara covering its Heroya and Sluiskil plants in 2024. A strategic demerger in 2025 moved the maritime product portfolio into Kongsberg Maritime, narrowing the company to energy, processing and renewables customers ahead of the rebrand. Shane McArdle is president and chief executive; the wider group is led by Eirik Lie.
Platform and products
The core offering is an industrial intelligence platform that contextualises operational and engineering data through a knowledge graph, drawing on SCADA systems, historians such as PI, ERP and CMMS records, P and IDs, CAD models and engineering documentation. On top of it sit the Falkor Surface work surface, agentic AI agents and an asset co-pilot that let engineers question an asset and act on the answer, with lineage back to source data. Named products include SiteCom for construction and commissioning, LedaFlow for multiphase flow simulation and K-Spice for process simulation, and the platform exposes open APIs so it can be integrated with existing business systems.
Where it is used
The product catalogue is organised by industry. In oil, gas and LNG the emphasis is on capital projects, field development, asset operations and maintenance, drilling and well operations, process and flow simulation and carbon capture and storage. Renewables and utilities work covers power generation, offshore wind generation and transmission and distribution, while the chemicals segment uses digital twin and process simulation for plant operations, safety and risk management.
Customers and partners
Published case studies name Yara, Var Energi, Equinor, Shell and LNG Canada. Yara used the digital twin and work surface across factories in Norway and the Netherlands; Var Energi scaled digital twin technology from pilot to full implementation for maintenance planning; Equinor uses simulation technology on the Johan Sverdrup field; and Shell applied optimisation workflows to MEG injection control at Ormen Lange. On the partner side the company works with system integrators and technology vendors, announced a partnership with Wipro in April 2026 to build AI-powered digital twins for energy and utility clients, and shared a Microsoft Intelligent Manufacturing Award with Yara at Hannover Messe in the same month.
