MAIRE S.p.A. is an Italian engineering and technology group formed around the former Maire Tecnimont, which took its present name in April 2024. It is listed on Borsa Italiana, has been part of the FTSE Italia Mid Cap index since its November 2007 flotation, and works through roughly 50 operating companies in about 45 countries. Fabrizio Di Amato is chairman and Alessandro Bernini has been chief executive since 2022.
Two business units
The group reports through Integrated E&C Solutions, which carries out engineering, procurement and construction, and Sustainable Technology Solutions, which licenses process technology and supplies proprietary equipment. Integrated E&C Solutions is built on Tecnimont, the main contractor for petrochemical, polyolefin and fertiliser complexes, and KT - Kinetics Technology, which handles refining, hydrotreating, sulphur recovery, hydrogen, ammonia and methanol units. Sustainable Technology Solutions brings together NextChem and its subsidiaries, including Stamicarbon for urea technology, CONSER for derivatives such as trimellitic anhydride, and, since 2026, Ballestra and a majority stake in ETEK. In the first half of 2026 Integrated E&C Solutions generated revenue of EUR 3,396.7 million with an EBITDA margin of 5.8 per cent, while Sustainable Technology Solutions recorded EUR 285.7 million of revenue, up 46.9 per cent, at a 23.8 per cent margin.
Results and order book in 2026
- First quarter 2026, reported on 29 April: revenue of EUR 1,836.5 million, one-fifth higher net income of EUR 76.7 million, order intake of EUR 4.78 billion and a backlog of EUR 15.73 billion.
- First half 2026, reported on 30 July: revenue of EUR 3,682 million, up 6.9 per cent; EBITDA of EUR 266.2 million; net income of EUR 157.2 million, up 18.3 per cent.
- Order intake of EUR 7,215.8 million in the first half lifted the backlog to EUR 16,270.9 million at 30 June 2026; July awards took the year-to-date figure to EUR 8.4 billion against a full-year target of at least EUR 9 billion.
- Adjusted net cash was EUR 301.1 million at 30 June 2026, after EUR 194.4 million of dividends, EUR 81.1 million of buybacks and EUR 165.9 million of acquisitions; the group also completed a EUR 115 million top-up of a sustainability-linked Schuldschein on 14 July 2026.
Contracts announced in 2026
On 2 March 2026 Tecnimont was awarded an EPC contract worth about USD 1.3 billion for a petrochemical project covering a hydrocarbon plant with its utilities and offsite facilities, with completion expected within 2031. On 20 July 2026 Tecnimont won an engineering, procurement, commissioning and start-up contract of roughly EUR 1.3 billion from Fértil Pampa, a subsidiary of Pampa Energía, for a fertiliser complex at Bahía Blanca in Argentina, described as Latin America's largest urea plant, with capacity of about 2.1 million tonnes a year, an on-site ammonia unit, two ultra-low-energy urea trains and a 41-month schedule; EUR 140 million of the value covers NextChem's urea licensing and process design package. NextChem also won the urea technology package for the SABIC ANS SAN-7 fertiliser complex in Saudi Arabia, a contract in China with NX CONSER for trimellitic anhydride technology signed in April 2026, and licensing, process design and engineering work for a sustainable aviation fuel project in Australia based on its NX Circular gasification route.
Technology acquisitions
NextChem completed the purchase of the Ballestra group on 25 June 2026 for EUR 148.2 million, adding surfactants, detergents, fluorine chemistry and NPK fertiliser technologies together with the Mazzoni and BUSS ChemTech businesses, about 460 employees and a backlog of roughly EUR 270 million. On 16 June 2026 it acquired 70 per cent of ETEK, owner of SISEMTEK, for total consideration of EUR 11.1 million, bringing pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical and electrowinning processes for recovering precious and critical metals from electronic waste, batteries, solar panels and mining residues. The core technology base is older: Stamicarbon, acquired in 2009 from DSM, has licensed urea processes since the 1950s, and KT descends from Selas Italia, which became KTI in 1974 and passed through Mannesmann and Technip before MAIRE bought it in 2010.
History and ownership
The group's two oldest components have different roots. Fiat Engineering began in the 1930s as Fiat's internal construction and plant service and was incorporated in 1972, while Tecnimont was founded in 1973 by Montedison from the engineering divisions of Montecatini and Edison, inheriting Montecatini's polyolefin expertise and the chemical legacy of Nobel laureate Giulio Natta. Maire Holding, controlled by the Di Amato family, bought 70 per cent of Fiat Engineering from Fiat in 2004 and the remaining 30 per cent later, then acquired all of Tecnimont from Edison in 2005 for EUR 180 million. The combined group listed in 2007, absorbed the Indian engineering firm Tecnimont ICB in 2008 and created NextChem in November 2018 to hold its green chemistry and energy transition businesses.
Contact and publishing
MAIRE reports quarterly and publishes results, presentations and press releases through its newsroom. Groupmaire.com is served behind a bot-protection layer that blocks automated clients, so its own contact and media pages could not be read directly during this check; the addresses used here come from the group's Tecnimont and NextChem sites, where general enquiries are directed to [email protected] and media requests to [email protected]. Tecnimont and NextChem each maintain separate websites with project and news material.
