Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, known as Masdar, is a clean energy developer, investor and operator headquartered in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, with a postal address of PO Box 54115 and a customer support line on +971 2 653 3333. It was founded on 23 April 2006 by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan through Mubadala Investment Company, and since 2022 it has been jointly owned by the UAE's three energy champions: Mubadala, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA). Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi is chief executive, and Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, was the founding chief executive. The company employs more than 1,100 people across 12 countries and has developed projects in over 40 countries.

Portfolio and 2030 target

Masdar's portfolio capacity exceeded 65 GW as the company marked its twentieth year in 2026, and it has set a target of 100 GW by 2030. Its 13th annual sustainability report, covering 2025, recorded clean electricity generation of 40.2 TWh from operating projects, up 38% from 29.2 TWh in 2024, avoiding 19.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. Capacity in operation or under construction rose about 40% from 32 GW to 45.8 GW, and a further 20.7 GW of secured projects or projects approaching final investment decision took the total portfolio to 66.5 GW at the end of 2025. To fund the next phase the company says it will deploy US$30-35 billion of equity and project finance to reach 100 GW by 2030, adding an average of 10 GW a year, and in 2025 it raised US$1 billion in a green bond that was 6.6 times oversubscribed, with 85% of the order book from international investors.

Technology and geographic spread

The portfolio covers solar photovoltaic, concentrated solar, onshore and offshore wind, battery storage, waste-to-energy and geothermal energy, alongside a green hydrogen business. Landmark assets include the 2 GW Al Dhafra solar plant in Abu Dhabi, which was the largest single-site solar facility in the world when it was completed in 2023 and supplies around 200,000 UAE homes; Hywind Scotland, the 30 MW floating offshore wind farm that Masdar part-owns; the 145 MW Cirata floating solar project in Indonesia, the largest in Southeast Asia; and the 500 MW Zarafshan wind farm in Uzbekistan, the largest in Central Asia. Growth has come partly through acquisition: Masdar bought Saeta Yield in Spain, took a 50% stake in Terra-Gen in the United States and acquired TERNA ENERGY in Greece, giving it operating platforms in three additional markets.

Round-the-clock power and green hydrogen

Masdar's current flagship development is a gigascale round-the-clock renewable project in Abu Dhabi with Emirates Water and Electricity Company, combining 5.2 GW of solar with a 19 GWh battery system to deliver 1 GW of uninterrupted baseload power. The project is valued at AED 22 billion, and Masdar has said it is exploring similar structures with international partners, including an agreement signed with Azerbaijan to examine round-the-clock supply options. The company is also pursuing green hydrogen and low-carbon urban development through Masdar City, and it hosts the annual Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
