The business began in 1978 as Northenden Engineering Services, founded by Geoff Lloyd and Bryan Sullivan, and traded as NES International and NES Overseas before becoming NES Global Talent in a 2011 rebrand. AEA Investors bought it in 2012 for 234 million pounds, and in September 2020 it merged with Fircroft to form NES Fircroft. Nine acquisitions followed over nine years: Energy People, RC Consultants, Sure Flow, Frontica Advantage, Ziegler's Oilfield Consulting, Redbock, Bedrock Petroleum Consultants, Evolve Scientific and Polarities. Financing history includes a 105 million pound refinancing in 2012, facilities of 215 million and 60 million dollars in 2018, and a 100 million dollar senior facility refinanced in September 2022.

NES Fircroft also published a 2026 report on aligning training and workforce needs in the energy industry, one of a series of reports and whitepapers on energy transition, renewables and employer-of-record topics.
