Ramboll is a Danish architecture, engineering and consultancy group headquartered in Copenhagen and founded in Denmark in 1945. It employs more than 18,000 specialists and works in 35 countries, combining buildings and transport engineering with water, environment, energy and management consulting. The group is owned by the Ramboll Foundation rather than by outside shareholders, a structure it links to its ability to invest over long horizons.
Group leadership and structure
Claus Hemmingsen chairs the Group Board of Directors, with Helle Østergaard Kristiansen as deputy chair. Three of the board members, Steen Nørbæk Madsen, Michael Uhrlund Staunstrup and Joan Hee Roldsgaard, are elected by Danish employees. Christian Jensby is Group CEO, supported by an executive team that includes Lone Tvis as chief people officer, Peter Heymann Andersen as chief commercial officer and Michael Harboe-Jørgensen as acting chief financial officer, who also heads strategy, mergers and acquisitions.
How the business is organised
Ramboll runs a matrix of country and market leadership. Managing directors cover Denmark (Ib Enevoldsen), Germany (Mark Meier), Sweden (Anette Seger), Norway (Camilla Amundsen), Finland (Jaana Tyynismaa), the UK (Neil Sansbury), the Americas (Cheryl Ginyard-Jones) and Asia-Pacific (Nick Fellows). Market managing directors lead Buildings (Arne Birkeland), Transport (Stefan Wallmann), Energy (Hannes Reuter), Water (Esther Bosman), Environment & Health (Philippa Spence) and Management Consulting (Kasper Freund), while the architecture and landscape business Henning Larsen is led by Jacob Kurek. Specialist units include Ramboll Tech, and Ramboll RST, a 100-person road survey technology business that collects road condition data and sells mobile measurement systems and analysis software.
Financial performance in 2025
Ramboll reported revenue of DKK 17.3 billion for 2025 with operating profit before amortisation, EBITA, of DKK 898 million and an EBITA margin of 5.2%. The group described 2025 as a financially challenging year in which it worked on its knowledge platform, organisational agility and cost base. Non-financial measures for the year included a 29% reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions against a 2019 baseline, a client satisfaction score of 4.3 out of 5 and an employee engagement score of 7.7 out of 10.
Work during 2025 and 2026
The annual report points to large-scale rail infrastructure, more sustainable data centres, pharmaceutical facilities, power grid modernisation, urban climate adaptation and low-carbon energy as the themes of 2025. Among the projects flagged is a framework agreement covering work at Ørsted's Danish thermal heat and power plants, and planning for the electrification of a 170-kilometre railway line. Group news in September 2026 included a role on the Metrolink programme. In 2026 the company also published a study called The Nordic Way, drawing on interviews with 103 urban leaders in Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen on how cities can accelerate resilient urban transformation.
Markets and disciplines
Client work is grouped into a set of market pages that double as the group's public description of its expertise.
- Energy, including thermal generation, power grids and low-carbon energy projects
- Water, waste and resource management, with circular economy services
- Transport, covering rail, roads and urban mobility
- Real estate, industrial clients and healthcare facilities
- Government and public sector work, including climate adaptation
- Finance and investment, advising institutions on sustainable investment
- Technology and digital services delivered through Ramboll Tech
- Cross-cutting programmes on decarbonisation for net zero, biodiversity and ecosystems, and resilient societies
Ramboll is owned by the Ramboll Foundation, a structure the company says allows it to invest and plan over longer periods than a listed peer, and it reports both financial and non-financial performance each year.
