Rotork plc is a British manufacturer of flow control and instrumentation equipment for industrial valves. The company was founded in 1957 as Rotork Engineering Company Ltd, its first product being the 100A electric actuator, and it has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 1968, when it was admitted as Rotork Controls Ltd. Its registered office and principal manufacturing site are at Rotork House, Brassmill Lane, Bath, and the group employs more than 3,500 people, selling into 140 countries through three end-market divisions.
Divisions and product range
On 1 January 2020 Rotork reorganised its four product divisions - Rotork Controls, Rotork Instruments, Rotork Gears and Rotork Fluid Systems - into three end-market divisions: Oil & Gas, Water & Power, and Chemical, Process & Industrial. The catalogue covers electric industrial and intelligent actuators, electro-hydraulic actuators, heavy duty and light duty fluid power actuators, HVAC actuators, precision modulating actuators, flow pressure control and filtration equipment, multi-turn and part-turn gearboxes, valve positioners and controllers, master stations, networks and protocols, and spares and accessories.
The flagship line is the IQ3 Pro intelligent electric actuator for multi-turn and part-turn isolating and modulating duty, released in 2026. It uses a double-sealed enclosure rated IP66/68 for seven metres over 72 hours, carries explosionproof protection to international standards and is certified for safety applications to SIL 2 and SIL 3, with non-intrusive local controls, handheld setting tools and network connectivity for remote configuration and diagnostics.
Where the equipment is used
The oil and gas division supplies actuation for pipelines, terminals, tank farms, refineries and LNG plants. Rotork publishes separate industry pages for energy transition work, covering carbon dioxide transport and storage, hydrogen, methane emissions reduction and desalination, and it offers packaged skid-mounted solutions and integrated Ethernet networking across the actuator range.
In August 2026 the company completed the first batch of IQ3 Pro actuators for the Liverpool Bay carbon dioxide transportation and storage project, developed for Liverpool Bay CCS Limited under the HyNet cluster. The units were designed and manufactured in Bath, and the milestone also covered apprenticeship and skills activity at the plant.
Service, support and certification
A service and aftermarket organisation sits alongside the manufacturing business, supplying spares, repairs, retrofits and site support through a worldwide network. It accounted for 24 per cent of 2025 revenue and grew ahead of the group. Account holders are served through a customer portal, product literature and group brochures are held in an online document library, and the website is published in several European and Asian language editions.
Financial performance
