Seadrill Limited is an offshore drilling contractor registered in Bermuda, with management and operating offices in Liverpool, Houston, Stavanger, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, Dubai and Luanda. It concentrates on deepwater and harsh-environment drilling for international oil companies and national oil companies, and reports monthly on the contract position of every rig in its fleet status report.
Fleet composition
The fleet page lists 14 units: ten drillships, three semi-submersibles and one jack-up. Most carry the West prefix, among them the drillships West Auriga, West Capella, West Jupiter, West Neptune, West Polaris, West Saturn, West Tellus and West Vela and the semi-submersible West Phoenix. The August 2026 fleet status report sets out 17 units in four groups: ten drillships and benign semi-submersibles, the harsh-environment CJ70 jack-up West Elara, three drillships managed through the Sonadrill joint venture in Angola, and three stacked semi-submersibles, West Aquarius, West Phoenix and West Eclipse. The Sonadrill units, West Gemini, Sonangol Libongos 1 and Sonangol Quenguela 1, work for Sonangol, an undisclosed client and TotalEnergies respectively; Seadrill earns a daily management fee on those rigs rather than a dayrate.
Contracted fleet
The August 2026 fleet status report gives rig-by-rig terms. West Polaris is contracted to Petrobras in Brazil to January 2031 on a stepped dayrate ladder: about USD 413,400 from April 2026 to March 2027, USD 459,400 from April 2027 to mid-January 2028 and USD 441,500 from mid-January 2028 to mid-January 2031. West Auriga, also with Petrobras, runs to November 2027 on a contract worth about USD 577 million at signing including mobilisation and additional services, and West Tellus is with Petrobras to June 2029 on about USD 539 million. West Jupiter's Petrobras contract to March 2029 was signed at about USD 525 million, while West Saturn works for Equinor to October 2027 with priced options through October 2030 and a one-year option exercised to start in October 2026 at about USD 114 million. In Asia, West Capella is with PTTEP in Malaysia to August 2027 on about USD 157 million for roughly 440 days, plus a priced option of about 75 days exercised at the original dayrate. In the US Gulf, West Neptune serves LLOG under contracts signed at about USD 86 million for some 180 days and about USD 48 million for about 120 days, while West Vela works for Talos and LLOG on awards of about USD 26 million and, from June 2027, about USD 161 million. West Elara moves from ConocoPhillips to Equinor in Norway, with an accommodation contract from September 2026 worth about USD 78 million including mobilisation and priced options covering about 270 days.
Results and backlog
Seadrill reported total contract backlog of approximately USD 2.9 billion alongside its second-quarter 2026 results on 10 August 2026, and said that awards and extensions secured during and shortly after the quarter, in the US Gulf of Mexico and Malaysia, had added roughly USD 200 million. The company files annual and quarterly reports with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and publishes a monthly fleet status report covering contract terms and out-of-service time.
