TGS ASA is an energy data and intelligence company with headquarters in Oslo and Houston. It is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the ticker TGS and is part of the OBX index, with American depositary receipts traded on the OTCQX market as TGSNF and TGSGY. The company employs nearly 2,000 people and operates offices in the United Kingdom, Egypt, Brazil, Malaysia and Australia. Its scale in acquisition and data was enlarged by the merger with PGS, agreed in September 2023 and completed on 1 July 2024, which combined the two Norwegian companies' seismic fleets and data libraries; on completion TGS shareholders owned roughly two thirds of the combined group.

Data library and acquisition

TGS sells multi-client seismic, well, geological and gravity and magnetics data covering mature, emerging and frontier basins, organised on the website by data type, region and hotspot. Its published hotspots include Angola, several Brazilian basins including the pre-salt, East Coast Canada, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Gulf of America, India, Indonesia, the MSGBC basin, the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the Orange Basin and United States onshore basins. Acquisition is carried out with seven Ramform vessels equipped with steerable multisensor GeoStreamer technology, and the company states that it is the leading provider of ocean bottom node and GeoStreamer acquisition, using a proprietary Gemini enhanced frequency source. Processing and imaging are performed in house and on cloud infrastructure, and digital applications include R360, the Facies Map Browser, Prima, Prediktor and Wind AXIOM. Management states that projects are typically targeted to earn sales returns of two to two and a half times the investment, with higher pre-funding required where expected returns are lower.

New energy and diversification

Beyond oil and gas, TGS sells offshore wind market intelligence through TGS and 4C, including a wind intelligence platform launched in 2026, plus solar data and analytics. The company markets carbon storage screening and CO2 storage site evaluation, geothermal data, and offshore minerals prospects. These lines use the same subsurface library and imaging capability that supports exploration work.
