Its shares trade on Nasdaq Copenhagen under the ticker VWS. The group employed 35,100 people at the end of 2024 and around 37,000 globally by 2026, and it describes itself as the wind industry's largest service provider. Manufacturing plants are located in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, India, Italy, Romania, the United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Australia, China, Brazil, Poland and the United States.

From a Jutland steel workshop to turbine manufacturing

The business traces back to a blacksmith's shop bought in Lem, West Jutland, in 1898. Vestas itself was founded there in 1945 by Peder Hansen as Vestjysk Stålteknik and began with household appliances before moving into agricultural equipment in 1950, intercoolers in 1956 and hydraulic cranes in 1968. It entered the wind industry in 1979 and produced wind turbines exclusively from 1989. The 2003 merger with the Danish turbine maker NEG Micon created the largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world, and the enlarged company took the Vestas Wind Systems name. Vestas has been listed in Copenhagen since the 1990s and continues to publish audited annual reports and quarterly interim reports as a Danish public limited company.

Turbine platforms

  • EnVentus — the modular onshore platform covering the mid-to-large MW segment, used for the V150, V162 and V172 machines.
  • 4 MW and 2 MW platforms — high-volume onshore lines that make up much of the installed base.
  • V236-15.0 MW — the group's flagship offshore turbine, whose prototype reached its rated output of 15 MW at the Østerild test field in Jutland in 2023.

The company also developed a 199-metre onshore tower, announced in 2022 for the V172-7.2 MW machine, to reach stronger and more stable winds, and it operates a blade recycling facility in the United States.

The service and maintenance business

Vestas reports 165 GW of onshore and offshore capacity under service, supported by around 16,000 service employees and more than 11,000 service technicians in a network spanning 71 countries. The service organisation monitors data from more than 52,000 turbines and draws on a supply chain of over 1,200 suppliers, offering scheduled maintenance, parts and repair, digital services and fleet optimisation. The company frames this as more than 45 years of experience in wind energy operations, and it says it was the first company to pass major milestones in both turbine installation and turbine service.

Scale and financial position

For the 2024 financial year Vestas reported revenue of EUR 17.295 billion, operating income of EUR 794 million and net income of EUR 494 million, with total assets of EUR 24.644 billion and equity of EUR 3.542 billion. The competitive picture has shifted towards Chinese suppliers: Wood Mackenzie's April 2026 review of 2025 installations found that Chinese manufacturers took 78% of the 176 GW of wind capacity added worldwide that year, and Vestas ranked seventh among turbine companies in 2026. Its order book covers onshore and offshore projects in Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific and Africa, with manufacturing and sourcing spread across the sixteen countries listed above.

Reporting, governance and contact

Vestas keeps investors and the media supplied through a company announcements archive covering the past ten years, publishing financial reports, major order announcements and investor news in Danish local time. The listed reporting cycle for 2026 so far comprises the Annual Report 2025, published with a company announcement dated 5 February 2026, an interim financial report for the first quarter issued on 6 May 2026, and an interim financial report for the second quarter issued on 12 August 2026, each accompanied by an investor presentation and an ESEF-format package. The group also publishes a remuneration report, sustainability disclosures and policy positions on materials and rare earths, water and marine resources and the sustainable energy transition. General enquiries are handled through the head office in Aarhus, and a press office page lists regional media contacts for Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, Latin America and the Mediterranean.
