Wood is a consulting, engineering and operations business that serves energy and materials clients, trading as John Wood Group Limited and registered in Scotland under number SC36219. Its registered office is Sir Ian Wood House on Hareness Road in the Altens Industrial Estate, Aberdeen. The company is part of the Sidara group, in which it forms the Energy & Materials pillar alongside Dar, Perkins&Will, TYLin and Currie & Brown, and it describes itself as having more than a century of industrial engineering heritage.

Service lines and digital practice

Wood groups its work into four service lines: advising, covering feasibility and technical studies; engineering, including front-end design and detailed multi-discipline work; project delivery, where it executes EPC and EPCM contracts; and asset management, which covers operations and maintenance, modifications, commissioning and decommissioning. Decarbonisation and digitalisation run across those lines, with the digital practice split into asset health, automation and systems integration, digital asset and DataOps, digital-led decarbonisation and process optimisation. Its markets are oil and gas upstream, midstream, petrochemicals and refining, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, chemicals, life sciences, minerals and metals, power, renewables including wind and solar, and nuclear.

Scale and technical track record

The company reports around 33,000 employees in about 50 countries and says it maintains local presence in the main energy and materials hubs. Roughly 900 of those staff work in Saudi Arabia, where they deliver engineering from the kingdom in collaboration with Wood's Reading office in the United Kingdom. Wood states that it has more than 60 years of hydrogen experience with over 130 plants in 40 countries, that its petrochemicals and refining practice rests on more than a century of work with some 6,800 specialists, and that its subsea group has been involved in about 75 per cent of global tieback projects. Published case studies include integrated offshore support for one of Brazil's largest oil fields, EPCM services for Gassco's European gas terminals and design work on one of the United Kingdom's largest low-carbon hydrogen production plants.

For the year ended 31 December 2025 Wood reported sales of USD 4,767.7 million, down from USD 5,156.4 million in 2024, and a net loss of USD 401.7 million, smaller than the USD 2,778 million loss recorded the previous year. Its order book stood at USD 6.5 billion at 30 June 2025, up from USD 5.8 billion at 31 December 2024.

Selected contracts and framework agreements

  • June 2026: Aramco awarded Wood a five-year long-term agreement, extendable by three years, for engineering, design and project management on Saudi capital projects in oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals and lower-carbon hydrogen. Wood has worked with Aramco for more than 30 years and won an engineering services contract for the Southern and Northern Areas gas increments in 2024.
  • May 2026: China Offshore Oil Engineering Company contracted Wood for detailed design on QatarEnergy's Bul Hanine EPIC2 redevelopment offshore Qatar, covering 25 pipelines plus crossing analysis for 15 umbilicals and two power cables, after Wood delivered pre-FEED and FEED for the field directly to QatarEnergy.
  • June 2025: ADNOC awarded Wood an engineering, procurement and construction management package for long-term gas processing facilities at Habshan in the United Arab Emirates, with a contract value of about USD 2.8 billion including pass-through revenue and roughly USD 400 million of revenue expected to be recognised by Wood.
  • Wood also holds project management consultancy work for Binh Son Refining's Dung Quat refinery upgrade and expansion in Vietnam, following earlier feasibility and front-end engineering phases.

Standards and contact

Wood handles enquiries through web forms for sales, press, recruitment, suppliers, pensions and privacy requests rather than publishing a general enquiry address. The only mailbox on the site is [email protected], which is presented for data protection requests and is not a general contact point. The company publishes an HSSE policy, a quality policy, a supplier code of conduct, a code of ethics, a modern slavery statement, diversity, equal opportunities and human rights policies, and a UK carbon reduction plan.
