Worley Limited is an engineering and professional services company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the code WOR and headquartered in Sydney. It works across the energy, chemicals and resources value chains, from early planning studies through detailed engineering, procurement and construction to the operation and, eventually, the decommissioning of assets. Chris Ashton has been chief executive and managing director since February 2020, John Grill is chair, and Justine Travers is chief financial officer.
Origin and expansion
The Australian business that became Worley was established in 1976 as Wholohan Grill and Partners, a small engineering consultancy founded by John Grill. In 1987 it acquired the Australian interests of Worley, an American engineering firm founded by Steve Worley, and took the Worley name; long-term contracts in Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore followed, several of them through local joint ventures that still operate. The company listed on the ASX in 2002, then acquired Parsons E&C in 2004 and traded as WorleyParsons, a name it kept through a period of acquisitions in Canada, Oman, China, South Africa, Norway and the United States spanning power, water, infrastructure and minerals as well as hydrocarbons.
The largest step came in October 2018, when WorleyParsons agreed to take over the energy, chemicals and resources business of Jacobs for A$3.3 billion, completing the deal in April 2019 and roughly doubling the workforce. The group rebranded to Worley around the 2019 annual general meeting and refreshed its brand again in November 2023, folding Advisian, Chemetics, Comprimo, Cord, Intecsea and Rosenberg into a single brand.
Services, consulting and technology
Full project delivery covers engineering, procurement and supply chain, construction and fabrication, and operations and maintenance. Worley Consulting handles advisory, capital project support, planning and investment, digital solutions and environment work, including repurposing and decommissioning. Specialist and technology businesses include Worley Chemetics and Worley Comprimo, which sell proprietary process technology, Offshore energy solutions and Technology Ventures. Delivery is marketed around artificial intelligence and digitally enabled project execution, with engineering resources shared across a globally connected team.
Industry coverage is grouped into four blocks: chemicals and fuels, spanning refining, chemicals, low-carbon fuels, plastics recycling and sustainable aviation fuel; conventional energy, covering offshore and onshore oil, integrated gas, midstream, carbon capture and decommissioning; low-carbon energy, where the company lists hydrogen, nuclear power, power networks, energy storage, data centres, biogas and renewables; and resources, from aluminium, copper, graphite and battery materials to iron ore, mined fertilizers, precious metals and water. Worley states that it operates in more than 40 countries and publishes an office directory covering Australia and New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, Europe and the Americas, from Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth to Houston, Calgary, Aberdeen, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Mumbai, Singapore, Johannesburg and Sao Paulo.
Scale, results and capital returns
Worley reported revenue of A$12,050 million for the 2025 financial year and employed 45,505 people as of July 2025. Its 2026 full-year results, annual report and investor day presentation were published through the investor centre during 2026, together with an investor factsheet dated 26 August 2026 and a broker toolkit for the same year. The annual report highlights set out a year in which revenue, EBITA and cash flow all grew, with revenue in backlog of US$13.8 billion and 69 per cent of aggregated revenue classed as sustainability-related.
Capital management in the year included a completed A$500 million share buyback with a further A$300 million programme under way, and A$132 million of cost-out actions. Normalised cash conversion was 93.6 per cent, inside the 85 to 95 per cent target range, and days sales outstanding were 44.3 against a target below 65. On safety, the serious case frequency rate fell to 0.006 from 0.02 in the 2025 financial year, 20 per cent of senior leaders were women, 75 per cent of the top 20 customers by revenue had net zero commitments, and Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions were 76 per cent below their 2020 financial year level. The group's strategic framework is described as strengthen, expand and innovate.
Activity during 2026 and contact
Worley's own account of the year refers to geopolitical uncertainty and to disruption caused by the conflict in the Middle East, where it mobilised an internal ready response and recovery team to support employees and keep projects running. Project news published during 2026 includes a renewable syngas project with D-CRBN in Belgium, an engineering, procurement and construction renewal for CNOOC in the UK North Sea announced on 22 September 2026, front-end engineering for an Indonesian liquefied natural gas and carbon capture development, a data centre expansion contract in the United States and membership of an advanced nuclear consortium. Results, presentations and ASX announcements are published through the investor centre, which also lists the company's financial calendar and analyst coverage.
Enquiries are handled mainly through web forms: the contact page routes customer, supplier, billing, investor, media and careers questions, and a separate page deals with media requests. Some locations also publish direct mailboxes, and the site's media page carries a dedicated corporate press address, [email protected], rather than a general enquiry mailbox.
