WSP Global Inc. is a Canadian engineering and professional services consultancy headquartered in Montreal and listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker WSP as a component of the S&P/TSX 60 index. It was founded in 1959 and is led by president and chief executive Alexandre J. L'Heureux. The group's own website listed 75,000 employees in January 2026; headcount rose to about 83,000 when the acquisition of TRC Companies closed on 24 February 2026. WSP works from roughly 500 offices in about 50 countries and reported revenue of C$16.17 billion in 2024.
How the business is organised
WSP describes itself as a pure-play consulting firm and splits its technical and advisory work into seven service areas: transport and infrastructure; earth and environment; property and buildings; energy and resources; industry; water; and sustainability and ESG solutions. The company's own figures put active projects at around 200,000 across all continents, serving more than 9,000 clients. Its Future Ready approach and a 2025-2027 global strategic action plan frame the investment case, following the 2022-2024 cycle, and the group holds an investor day and publishes an annual report and a sustainability report; the most recent editions are for 2025.
Growth by acquisition
WSP has expanded mainly through purchases. It was Genivar until it took over the London-based WSP Group plc in a friendly cash offer of GBP 278 million, completed on 1 August 2012, after which the enlarged firm had about 15,000 employees in more than 300 offices. In October 2014 it bought the New York-based engineer Parsons Brinckerhoff from Balfour Beatty for US$1.24 billion. Two transactions shaped 2026: the TRC Companies acquisition, announced in December 2025 and completed on 24 February 2026, and an approach for the Dutch consultancy Arcadis, which WSP dropped in September 2026.
Financing activity
The acquisition programme has been funded in part with new debt and equity. In December 2025 WSP closed a bought deal share offering with gross proceeds of about C$977.5 million. In January 2026 it priced US$1 billion of senior unsecured notes in two tranches, US$500 million at 4.003% due in January 2032 and US$500 million at 4.586% due in January 2036. In March 2026 it added US$1.5 billion more, split between US$650 million of 5.039% notes due 18 September 2031 and US$850 million of 5.714% notes due 18 September 2036.
Reporting calendar and energy work
The group reports quarterly and files its statements with the Canadian securities regulators. Fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 financial statements and management's discussion and analysis were published on 25 February 2026, first-quarter 2026 statements on 6 May 2026, and the company described the first quarter as showing strong profitability. Second-quarter results were released on 5 August 2026. WSP also publishes a climate and nature transition plan and holds periodic investor days; the most recent took place in 2025.
Energy and resources is one of the seven service lines and covers oil and gas, power and renewables work alongside the industry, water and earth sciences disciplines that support large energy projects, from site characterisation and environmental assessment to design, construction support and asset management. The group's client base spans governments, utilities, energy companies and private developers, and it describes around 200,000 active projects at any one time.
WSP publishes no general enquiry e-mail address on its corporate site: contact runs through web forms and regional office pages, and the only addresses on a WSP domain are supplier-facing mailboxes such as the UK procurement contact.
