ACWA Power, which now brands itself simply as Acwa, is a Saudi Arabian developer, investor and operator of power generation, renewable energy, green hydrogen and water desalination plants. Its headquarters are at the Business Gate Office Complex on Airport Road in Riyadh, with a second Saudi office in Jeddah and further offices from Muscat and Dubai to Cairo, Amman, Istanbul and Baku.

- 98.0 gigawatts of generation capacity across its portfolio, of which 52.3 gigawatts is renewable energy, or 53 percent of the total
- 111 assets in 16 countries, managed from 13 offices
- More than 4,000 employees
- Power for more than 16 million households, and desalinated water for over 6.8 million households
- 9.7 million cubic metres of desalinated water produced per day
- 1.2 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia linked to its hydrogen business
The company positions itself around three activities: conventional and renewable power generation, water desalination and treatment, and green hydrogen and ammonia. It reports assets under management of 126.6 billion on its home page.
Water and desalination
Acwa describes itself as the world's largest private water desalination company, building and operating reverse osmosis and thermal plants under long-term offtake contracts. Its water programme extends beyond Saudi Arabia: in July 2025 it signed agreements with the Senegalese government for the Grande-Cote seawater desalination project of 400,000 cubic metres per day to serve Dakar, to be built in two phases and powered entirely by green electricity, and in September 2026 an Acwa and WTCO consortium signed a technical services agreement with Fichtner to support Syria's water sector.
Renewables, storage and green hydrogen
On 6 September 2026 an Acwa-led consortium reached project commercial operation for the utility systems at The Red Sea destination, described by the company as the world's largest off-grid renewable utilities system. The project company, formed by Acwa with SPIC Huanghe Hydropower and Saudi Tabreed, pairs 340 megawatts of solar photovoltaic capacity with 1,227 megawatt hours of battery storage - the company calls it the largest off-grid battery facility built anywhere - and supplies hotels, Red Sea International Airport, a logistics hub, an electric fleet and staff accommodation with no grid connection, beginning a 25-year concession and avoiding roughly 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year at full capacity. Acwa has also signed agreements for 6,000 megawatt hours of battery storage in Saudi Arabia, and in August 2026 agreed with Veolia to continue joint optimisation of desalination plant design and performance in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.
International expansion
The company has built a pipeline beyond the Gulf through partnerships and memoranda of understanding, including an agreement with Danantara Indonesia in July 2025, a memorandum with the Maharlika Investment Corporation of the Philippines in June 2025, Malaysian collaborations targeting up to 12.5 gigawatts of sustainable energy capacity over a decade, and a September 2026 memorandum with South Korea's Korea Western Power to explore renewable energy cooperation in Uzbekistan. In October 2025 Acwa announced 10 billion US dollars of new clean energy and financing agreements.
Financial and shareholder profile
Acwa is listed on the Saudi Exchange. Its shareholders information page, last updated 24 September 2026, shows substantial shareholders holding 66.91 percent, a free float of 29.44 percent and board members and senior executives holding 3.53 percent. Announcing nine-month 2025 results, the company reported operating profit up 17 percent and adjusted net profit up 22 percent, having brought 7 gigawatts of power, 600,000 cubic metres per day of water and 3,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen into operation during that period. A rights issue of 7.125 billion riyals was completed in July 2025.
