Aspen Technology, known as AspenTech, is an industrial software company based at 20 Crosby Drive in Bedford, Massachusetts, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Emerson Electric. Emerson has consolidated the business since combining its industrial software operations with AspenTech in 2022 and took full ownership in March 2025, and the company's about page states that AspenTech is part of Emerson. Aspen Technology's shares were listed on Nasdaq under the ticker AZPN.
Origins
The company traces its technology to the Advanced System for Process Engineering project, a joint research effort between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the US Department of Energy launched in response to the energy crisis of the 1970s, which produced one of the chemical industry's first computer-based process modelling and simulation tools. Aspen Technology was founded in 1981, listed in 1994, moved its headquarters to Bedford in 2014, and in May 2022 was combined with Emerson's industrial software businesses, including OSI Inc. and Geological Simulation Software, under the AspenTech name. Company material notes a net-zero operations commitment for 2030.
Product portfolio
AspenTech groups its software into five areas:

Customer material in September 2026 described OQ standardising planning and scheduling on Aspen Petroleum Scheduler, and a July 2026 video covered the deployment of AVA at Repsol for monitoring advanced process control applications. The company also publishes webinars, executive briefs and a podcast series on industrial operations and AI.
Training, partners and contact
Alongside the software, AspenTech runs AspenTech University, an academic programme for universities and a competency development and sustainment service for customers, and it publishes training options for each product family. A partner directory covers implementation and technology partners, and the company maintains events and webinars, blogs, videos, podcasts and media coverage sections. Company material highlights the release of AspenTech V15, its Sustainability Pathways packages covering areas such as emissions management, hydrogen and carbon capture, and a place on a Newsweek list of the most trustworthy software companies.
AspenTech's website lists offices and sales contacts behind a single contact link, describes the company as a global provider of asset optimisation and industrial AI software, and names 20 Crosby Drive, Bedford, Massachusetts 01730 as its address. General enquiries use [email protected], and North American sales enquiries have a separate toll-free number. The company now sits in Emerson's software portfolio alongside Emerson's own automation business, which supplies the control systems and instrumentation beneath AspenTech's optimisation layer.
