Solstad is a Norwegian offshore shipping group whose head office stands at Nesavegen 39 in Skudeneshavn, on the west coast of Norway. It supplies specialised tonnage to energy clients — anchor handling tug supply vessels, subsea and construction support vessels and platform supply vessels — for oil and gas installations and for offshore wind farms, with ROV, survey and project services supplied through its Solstad Services segment.
Two shipowning companies
The group is built on two shipowning companies with separate shareholder structures. Solstad Offshore ASA, listed in Oslo, operates eight vessels and holds 27.3% of Solstad Maritime ASA, which was established on 16 January 2024 and operates 32 vessels, concentrating on Brazil, the North Sea, South East Asia, Australia and Africa. Solstad Shipping AS, owned by Solstad Maritime, is the Document of Compliance holder for every vessel owned or controlled by the Solstad companies, so safety management is shared across both fleets.
Fleet and availability list
Vessels are marketed in classes covering anchor handling, subsea construction and platform supply duties, and are employed on long-term charters or through the spot market. The group publishes a fleet availability list that was updated on 23 September 2026 and carries technical particulars plus a commercial duty telephone number and mailbox for chartering enquiries. In that list the AHTS Normand Prosper is shown with 337t and 750m2 and a client reference to Aker BP, Normand Ranger with 280t and 760m2 and a location of Dampier in Australia, the subsea vessel Normand Mermaid with a 100mt crane and 765m2 while at Haugesund, and the subsea vessel Normand Cutter with 300mt and 1,600m2, also in Norway.
Subsea services and equipment
Solstad Services delivers work on a dayrate basis alongside the vessels, and the group has expanded its subsea position through ownership as well as chartering: in 2024 it invested in Omega Subsea AS, a provider of ROV, tooling, personnel, survey and project management services to the subsea industry. Vessel-based surveys, remotely operated vehicles and intervention support are marketed as add-ons to the offshore shipping offer.
Contracts and 2026 activity
On 26 August 2026 Solstad Offshore ASA announced a two-year contract award with Petrobras for the construction support vessel Normand Valiant, a ship owned by Solstad Maritime ASA, and on 13 August 2026 Solstad Maritime signed a letter of intent with a key client for the CSV Normand Cutter. Extraordinary general meetings of both companies were held on 24 September 2026, having been convened by notices dated 3 September 2026, with Solstad Maritime's meeting at 12:00 CEST and Solstad Offshore's at 10:00 CEST. Earlier in 2026 the group published first and second quarter results and paid dividends of USD 0.10 and USD 0.15 per share in May and July.
Sixty years of offshore shipping
Solstad traces its shipping activity back more than sixty years and began contracting offshore vessels in the North Sea in the first half of the 1970s. The 1980s brought vessel oversupply and losses for shipowners, followed by a recovery in the 1990s that financed a fleet renewal and the arrival of larger multipurpose vessels; Lars Peder Solstad became chief executive of Solstad Shipping in 1999, succeeding his father Johannes Solstad, and the company was listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange as Solstad Offshore ASA. Refinancing in the last part of the 2010s brought Aker ASA in as a major owner through a share issue, and mergers with Rem Offshore, Farstad Shipping ASA and Deep Sea Supply Plc followed, with Hemen Holding joining Aker and the Solstad family as a large shareholder in Solstad Farstad ASA. The group took back the name Solstad Offshore ASA on 1 October 2018. The founder, Johannes Solstad, died on 25 May 2026.
Offices, emissions work and contact
Beyond the Skudeneshavn head office, the group lists a base at Husøyvegen 175 in Avaldsnes and offices in Aberdeen, Singapore, Manila, Macaé, Rio de Janeiro and Perth at Level 6, 16 St Georges Terrace. Its Solstad Green Operations programme has been running for over a decade to cut the fleet's carbon footprint.
