Técnicas Reunidas, a Spanish engineering firm, has secured a contract valued at over €200 million, approximately $220 million, to manage the second phase of the Coastal GasLink pipeline project in Canada. The agreement, awarded by LNG Canada to its subsidiary TR Canada E&C, mandates that the firm oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) for this significant expansion. This contract builds upon a prior front-end engineering design agreement and is expected to span more than four years.

The project focuses on increasing the capacity of the existing 670-kilometer pipeline, which currently transports natural gas to the LNG Canada export facility located in Kitimat, British Columbia. The objective is to nearly double the line’s current capacity of 2.1 billion cubic feet per day, achieving this increased flow without the need to lay new pipe. To facilitate this capacity boost, Técnicas Reunidas will be responsible for managing the addition of five new compressor stations along the route, in addition to making necessary modifications to both existing and planned infrastructure.

This pipeline expansion is directly linked to a final investment decision made by LNG Canada partners to double the export capacity of the Kitimat processing plant to 28 million tonnes per annum. While LNG Canada serves as the execution manager for the Phase 2 construction, TC Energy retains full ownership and operational control of the pipeline. The successful execution of this phase is critical to meeting the rising export demand for natural gas through the Canadian infrastructure.
